The town of Dalyan is located on the Turquoise coast in southern Turkey. Dalyan is well known thanks to its proximity to the famous 7km Iztuzu Beach where the endangered Loggerhead Turtles (Caretta Caretta) lay their eggs, the beach and surrounding area is protected. The beach can be reached by minibus or by a relaxing boat ride on the Dalyan Canal and on through the read beds. As well as Loggerhead Turtles Dalyan is also home to the largest population of the Soft Shelled Nile Turtles (Trionyx triunguis). The wet land areas are home to many migrating birds and storks nest all over the area.
Steeped in history Dalyan is overlooked by ancient Lycian Rock Tombs which are the last resting places of the Kings of Kaunos, meanwhile the Dalyan Canal weaves its way past the village on its way from Köyceğiz Lake to the beach.
Across the canal we find the ruins of the city of Kaunos, with a Roman theatre, fortifications, basilica and many other sites to be seen. Dalyan itself has strict building regulations which allow us to keep the traditional feeling in the village, traditionally a fishing village the village has a warm welcome to visitors.
The Saturday Market is a joy to shop at, from the best quality fake designer wear to fresh vegetables and of course a plentiful collection of local spices and teas; as a working market you will shop alongside tourists and locals alike.
There are many tours from Sarigerme to Dalyan, including visits to Iztuzu Beach, Mud baths, market shopping and night tours. Transfer from Sarigerme to Dalyan is around 25 minutes.
Koycegiz
The town of Koycegiz lies at the northern end of the lake by the same name and is joined to the Mediterranean by a natural channel. This unique environment is being preserved as a nature and wildlife sanctuary. A road shaded with aromatic frankincense trees leads to the tiny village of Dalyan on the inland waterway. The maze of channels is easily explored by boat as you immerse yourself in this tranquil dream world. The restaurants which line the waterways specialize in delicious fresh fish.
Magnificent tombs were carved into the rock high on the cliff face, at a bend in the river, above the fascinating ancient harbor city of Caunos. The Dalyan Delta, with the long, golden, sandy lztuzu beach at its mouth, is a nature conservation area and a refuge for sea turtles (Caretta caretta) and blue crabs.
Koycegiz a lovely traditional Turkish town is located 31 km away from the Dalaman International airport.The town centre, positioned on the banks of the lake, has a different character than other holiday resorts. The population of the town in summer and winter has a balanced nature. In comparison to other holiday resorts it is not crowded in the summer time and thin out in the winter.

Köyceğiz is a haven for eco-tourism. The mountains around it are great. The peak point of the Gölgeli Mountains,Çiçekbaba (Sandras) Mountain, is 2,295 metres high. Around the foothills of Sandras there are very beautiful high plateau villages, jeep safari roads, while near the summit there are Lakes Kartal and Gökçeova and a walking trail.
On the Dalaman Stream from the bridge at Akköprü there are rafting tours. If you check with travel agencies from Marmaris, Köyceğiz or Dalyan you will be able to book yourself onto one of these tours.
In the true meaning of the word, Köyceğiz means "heaven of water". The sea, the lake, the rivers feeding the lake, the channels connecting it to the sea all reinforce this. Indeed, wherever you dig in town, even just a few metres down, you can strike very clean water. Thus the town is very suitable for agriculture as well. The plantations that are irrigated by the underground water do not dry out, even in the hottest of summers.
The region is surrounded by mountains and blanketed by forests of Sığla and pine trees as can be found nowhere else in the world.
The small business restaurants in the town centre of Köyceğiz are good to have a dinner at. You can find all types of vegetables and meat, fish and entrees served here.
There are also restaurants located on the lake’s shore. Fish is plentiful in any season.
